Breast Cancer Surgery Breast cancer surgery is a procedure I might undergo to remove cancer from my breast. It's often one of the main treatments for breast cancer and can work alongside other treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, or hormone therapy. Types of Breast Cancer Surgery: - *Lumpectomy*: I would have the tumor and some surrounding tissue taken out, but my breast would stay mostly intact. - *Mastectomy*: This means I would have one or both of my breasts removed, either partially or completely. - *Breast-conserving surgery*: In this case, I would have the tumor removed while keeping as much of the breast tissue as possible. - *Breast reconstruction surgery*: After a mastectomy, I could have surgery to make my breast look more like it did before. Purpose: The main goals of my breast cancer surgery would be to: - Get rid of the cancerous tumor. - Stop the cancer from spreading. - Increase my chances of survival. - Improve my quality of life.
